Architectural Project Lead

About the Role
Barrientos Design & Consulting is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Architect/Architectural Project Lead to lead the technical and design coordination of architectural projects from schematic design through construction. This role bridges the design vision of the Principal with the Project Manager’s role. Responsibilities include programming, design development, document production, consultant coordination, and mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Documentation
- Translate design concepts into detailed, technically accurate construction documents
- Lead the development of schematic design, design development, and construction drawing sets
- Ensure constructability, code compliance, and technical clarity throughout the document process
Consultant Coordination
- Collaborate with engineers and external consultants across disciplines
- Review and coordinate consultant deliverables to ensure integration with architectural documents
Technical Oversight
- Conduct quality control reviews of drawings and specifications
- Research applicable codes, ordinances, and technical standards
- Incorporate sustainable design principles and best practices in building systems
Construction Phase Support
- Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings for conformance with design intent
- Conduct site visits and assist in resolving construction field issues
- Support preparation of addenda, bulletins, and change orders
Team Collaboration
- Mentor and supervise Design Architects and interns
- Contribute to collaborative design and technical problem-solving
- Foster knowledge sharing across the firm
Qualifications
- Professional degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch)
- Licensed or actively pursuing licensure
- 5 – 10 years of professional architectural experience
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, and document production standards
- Strong knowledge of building codes and accessibility requirements
- Excellent organizational and communication skills

Reports To: Project Manager
Location: Milwaukee, WI | *While this position is based in our Milwaukee office, it will require occasional travel to project sites based on client needs. Travel is typically regional and varies depending on project assignments and phases.*
Position Type: Full-Time; Hybrid with 1 day working remotely
Salary Range: $80k – $100k
