Barrientos Design was hired to conduct a study evaluating 31 service yards in the Milwaukee County Parks system. Based on the analysis, the study services as a basis for designing future improvements, aiding in the budget process for future capital improvements.
Following the study, Barrientos Design teamed up with GRAEF Engineering to conduct full design for a new service yard for Washington Park. The service yard includes heated parking, tempered storage, vehicle maintenance space, administration, and crew spaces, a fuel station, and covered bulk storage.
Throughout the design process, consideration was made for how the building is incorporated into the existing park and its interaction with surrounding buildings and neighborhoods. Things considered included site security, fencing, walkway lighting, stormwater retention pond, landscaping, building materials, and aesthetics.
The project’s expected constructions date in 2026 – 2027.
