American Public Works Association PWX 2022 Conference Recap

The Barrientos Team Attends the APWA PWX 2022 Conference in Charlotte, NC

Our team had an amazing time attending the APWA‘s PWX 2022 Conference in Charlotte this summer! The conference was an amazing opportunity for our team to network, explore the latest industry trends, experience amazing Charlotte sights, and provide a valuable education session for fellow public works professionals. Read on for some highlights:

PWX Conference Opening Reception at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum

We kicked off the event at the conference’s opening reception, which took place across many rooms in the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum. Attendees got to enjoy evening appetizers amongst celebrated vehicles.

One of the highlights of the opening reception was a performance by a rocking cover band in the NASCAR Museum.

The Charlotte Convention Center, which had plenty of gathering space and sunshine, was a beautiful facility for hosting the event.

In the image at the top of this post, you’ll see the exhibit floor featuring one of our favorite exhibits, a portable solar shade that can charge large construction vehicles. Electric vehicle charging equipment is a trend to watch in the coming years.

Charlotte thinks big and they planned their convention center to contain a rapid transit line running straight through the hall. You could whiz by it while you gathered in their cafe (left).

This is a rapidly-growing city that has done a great job using urban planning to create a livable, walkable, and dynamic downtown. Check out the night view from our hotel room of their young, growing skyline, pictured right.

Our President and Principal Architect, Norman Barrientos, partnered with Jeff Tews, the retired City of Milwaukee Fleet Management Director, to deliver the seminar “Seven Design Habits of Highly Effective Garages: A Combined View from a Fleet Manager and an Architect” at the conference.

We were honored to present this seminar to a packed room and thrilled about all of the exiting project inquiry leads we received following the talk!
